Founded in 1845, Chishindo, located in Honmachi, is a shop which specializes in porcelain.
The shop began to specialize in porcelain after World War Ⅱ.
The shops original location was in Nakamachi and the shop used to sell bags, then later moved to Honmachi where they started selling paper products.

Exclusively Selected Suppliers

As a result of the shops special focus on porcelain it features a wide variety of porcelain products from all over the country.
The shop has products from traditional porcelain makers such as Fukagawajisen and Yamamoto Chosa, who are purveyors to the Japanese Imperial Household Agency, along with porcelain products from the regions of Kyoyaki, Arita, Kutani, Seto, Bizen, Hagi, Iga and Shigaraki, which are all well known for their high quality porcelain ware.
As for western style porcelain products, the brands available vary from Japanese porcelain makers such as Okura Toen, Noritake, Narumi, Kagami Crystal and Sasaki, to overseas porcelain makers such as Wedgwood and HR Ware.
Shop staff are all very friendly would be delighted to assist you as you shop.

There are differing ranges of products displayed on the 1st and 2nd floors of the shop.


1st Floor – [Porcelain products for everyday use]
Various products which are commonly used by local people are displayed here.
Items that are used in daily life such as spoons, glasses and rice bowls.
2nd Floor – [Special and Unique products]
There is special display area on the 2nd floor.
It includes items which are designed to be used on special occasions such as tea ceremony utensils, vases, and unique creations of potters.
Often long-time customers come here to purchase such products for their daughters who are getting married, as a special gift.

There are a range of items some cute and some unique.
To celebrate the Saito Kinen Music Festival, they display products which are related to music, and they also have chopsticks with the 12 main baseball teams’ icons on them. These chopsticks are made out of broken baseball bats!
The shop also runs projects to raise ecological awareness encouraging people to carry their own chopsticks, collect porcelain and knives which are no longer used, and using solar power to generate electricity.

A: Utsukushigahara Kogen Heights and the Northern Alps which can be seen from the Chuo Otehashi Bridge.
