「鎮神社」は、その名の通り江戸時代に氾濫を繰り返す女鳥羽川を鎮めるために祀られた神社です。
由緒書きに寄りますと
『松本城主たりし石川数正大いに心を傾け城要害の為、女鳥羽川の流路を変更堀鑿し水汲より大門沢へ流れを現在の通り直流させ流水による城下町氾濫の守護神としれ祭りしを当社の創立と言伝う』
